Background

Noken conservation efforts supported by local governments and the central government. Central and local governments conducting introduction, deepening accompanied noken making training through the studios of local artisan crafts. Nominations team Noken noken ever recorded 311 respondents who are active and in need of urgent protection since 2011 until today, 2014.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism nominate or propose Noken to become a world intangible heritage to UNESCO. The move comes as an effort to support the preservation, protection and development and utilization of camshaft and also to introduce to international audiences. On December 4, 2012, Nokens Multifunction Bag Knitted or woven Crafts Papuan people in the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage Objects that require urgent protection.

Noken Museum Development aims to support conservation, protection and development and utilization of camshaft, providing a place for various collections noken - ethnic origins in Papua, among others: • Regional Indigenous Mamta, • Regional Indigenous Saireri, • Regional Indigenous Bomberay, • Regional Indigenous Domberai, • Regional Indigenous Ha-Anim, • Regional Indigenous La-Pago, • Regional Indigenous Me-Pago.

Storyline Concept

Part 1 : Establishment Museum Nokens

• Contains information in the form of the display panel which includes Vision Museum Nokens Certificates equivalent Unesco as world recognition for Noken, as well as historic photographs taken of the struggle to the recognition by the world Noken .

Part 2 : Values, Meaning and Philosophy Nokens

• Contains a description of Noken, ranging from values of life behind its manufacture, meaning knitted or basket, and local philosophy (local wisdom) life of tribes in Papua, which became the cultural capital Noken. In this section also displayed a video about Nokens and the daily life of the people of Papua through a TV monitor representative.

Part 3 : Raw Materials and Collections Nokens

Contains natural raw materials for the manufacture of bags Noken, how to manufacture (knitted and woven ), how to use and a collection of objects complete with descriptions of high value representing Indigenous Territory 7 and 10 Main Community Noken .
